Beliefs...

My mom related this incident to me which happenned a few days ago.

(This is based on a true story and any resemblance with anyone dead or alive is purely coincidental.)

My mom was on her usual routine, giving tuition to kids around the neighbourhood. And so, came along this girl, clad in her headscarf and suddenly burst into tears for no apparent reason. My mom,I think felt a bit uneasy. You know how it feels when you have a 7-year-old kid in front wailing away and you DON'T KNOW why.And she had other kids with her,and luckily, the ever-ocurring chain reaction where all the other kids start crying, after seeing one of their counterparts cry, did NOT turn into a reality this time.

My mom tried to calm the girl down and she stopped crying. And when my mom asked her why was she crying, she answered that she was worried if HER mom would scold her if she forgot to pray.

It sounds a bit absurd to me because, her parents have instilled this sense of fear and guilt in her that she thinks that if she misses her prayers, she would be punished by her mom.To me it's better to make someone understand why you are doing something rather than making the person scared of you.Her mom should have told her why she needs to pray and give her the reasons, because we tend to underestimate children as we think they do not comprehend what we are trying to tell them. But in fact, they do!

Regarding this, I have to tell you a short story. In my culture, we have a few superstitions, like you cannot cut your nails after 6 pm and you cannot use new things on Tuesdays.I asked my parents why do you follow them because it made no sense to follow any superstition without knowing the reason behind it.So, my dad actually told me that this superstitions are in fact useful to deter people, especially kids from doing stuff on their own.

Let me explain. When we are young we cannot seem to do stuff on our own like cutting our nails and handling knives. So, this superstitions help parents from avoiding any unwanted incidents. But, I personally feel that children are capable of understanding stuff like this,so reason anything out with kids and they shall obey.

Regarding my previous post,it was not meant to accuse anyone of anything. It's my blog and I write about stuff that happens to me,good and bad.So, don't take my blog too seriously and get mad at me (for reasons known to you).

Remember this superstition where the mother warns the girls from going near guys, because the girls stomach will "expand" when they come near them?

Enjoy your holidays, people...we've got the orientation coming up this saturday for the juniors!

signing off...
