Footballer..with a heart of gold
Just as I read on BBC that Man Utd managed to scrape past Portsmouth in the FA Cup, right next to it was an article on this Ecuadorian footballer, Ulises De La Cruz.
Well, I knew that he used to play for Aston Villa, and currently, he is a member of Premiership newcomers Reading.
The write-up was about De La Cruz sending money back to his village to provide the basic needs of the people there. And he even pays the salaries monthly of the doctors and nurses at a clinic he funded.
While one footballer is busy moving to LA, while another suspiciously chose a club who offered him a higher salary, De La Cruz is actually doing something for his community.
I'm a little surprised by the fact that Ecuador is not very developed that this guy had to set up proper water supply, schools and clinics all on his own.
Maybe having the Galapagos as a part of Ecuador is not such a great deal after all if you can't even look after your citizens needs.
Keep it up De La Cruz.
